CHEF RUTH FROM PALATE SENSATIONS



Chef Ruth is the executive chef at Palate Sensations. She has been living and working in Singapore since the past three years. Chef Ruth is originally from Galicia, Spain. She believes in living in the moment because “you lose the present if you are thinking of the past or dreaming about the future”. She completed her formal chef degree and a traditional bakery degree at had been working and teaching in Spain, London and Singapore. Ruth’s curiosity with food began at her grandmother’s café in Leon, Spain and she began experimenting with food on her own at the age of 14. Her food philosophy is – the less you touch it the better. She loves her favourite fish, the John Dory with a sprinkle of salt, garlic and a drizzle of olive oil.

Ruth is currently teaching at Palate Sensations. Palate Sensations Cooking School is a leading lifestyle cooking school in Singapore. What do you like to cook for yourself when you are alone? A: Fish, that would fills 10% of my plate and grilled vegetables that would fill the rest 90%. What is your favourite book? A: Memoirs of a Geisha, I read it when I was a teenager and there was a whole world in there that I wanted to discover. One essential that is a must have in your handbag? A: I have two essentials - Chapstick and dental floss What drives you to teach? A: My memories of my first teacher and the love of food that she instilled into me is something that I remember fondly and often. She is my best friend today and even on my shortest trips back home I find the time to catch up over a coffee. What is your favourite place in Singapore to hang out at? A: The area around Arab Street and Little India. Especially when the sun is setting and the sky is filled with hues of orange and red. Which is your best food and travel destination in South East Asia? A: Vietnam. I stayed on a boat for three days on the Mekong River and loved it. If you could save one thing from your burning house, what would it be? A: Definitely my computer. It is filled with all my memories. Anything you miss about your hometown? A: The fish market!
